Background Assets. I like to do a pretty detailed rough of the area I’m creating. It allows me to lock down the palette and define the essential things I’ll need to create. After that I just need to do a tighter pass to create the final assets that will go in game.
One of the hardest decisions we made was to change the look of the main character. In the end we did what was best for the story. We also like the new character design a lot better, so that helps:) The second image shows the scribbles and sketches that go into creating character assets.
Switching over to a tile based level editor meant a lot of changes need to be made on how the level art assets were being created. Here is a mockup showing that new direction and a glimpse at “Ash” our new heroine.
